Devotional for April 18

Purpose

138 I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.
2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O Lord, when they hear the words of thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the Lord: for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. Psalm 138 (KJV)

The Morning Exhortation

Late to bed, late to rise, thus the morning routine is sometimes disrupted. Life happens. Getting upset about it won’t help. It’s better to flow around it like water. Adjust, compensate, let go of the “can’t do” created by current events, and get busy with what can be done with the present circumstances. Live by faith, depend on grace, and the peace of God will sustain you. (Isaiah 53:1-5; Luke 4:16-21; Isaiah 43:2, 19-21; John 20:27-31; Hebrews 11:3-6; John 20:22, 14:27; Philippians 4: 1-7; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

The Prayer Appointed for This Week

Almighty and everlasting God, grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ’s Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The Book of Common Prayer
