Bruce Coleman over 40 Christian mens physique competitor and bodybuilder

The purpose of this blog is to encourage, inspire, and connect with other like-minded Christians. Regardless of whatever spiritual and physical exercise routines you follow, consistency will always be the first priority of work. What does consistency look like? Click on the link to subscribe to this blog with your email and I will show you how I live it. I post my Daily Devotional blogs at 4:30 5:00 5:15 5:30 6:00 am everyday. My Workout Logs are blogs describing my workouts that will be posted later during the day or whenever I can fit them in around my job and other responsibilities.

My name is Bruce Coleman. Now that I have passed the age of 60, I look back to the earliest beginnings of my two greatest passions in life, which are faith and fitness. Faith in Jesus Christ has always been my first passion and fitness the second. I was born the seventh child of eight in a small town within a stones throw of the Mason-Dixon Line. My father was a preacher. Having done what he was called to do, he passed on to his eternal reward in heaven quite a few years ago. I was born again in the Church of God at the age of 15. Shortly thereafter I discovered fitness, which unfortunately for many years overshadowed my faith.

I was a mere teenager going through puberty in the 1970s when Enter the Dragon and Pumping Iron kindled in me the desire to be able to fight like Bruce Lee while looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. A tall order to be sure. Especially when you consider that at that time I had never even seen an Asian before in real life, and there was nobody in my tiny little town that had muscles upon muscles like Arnold.

It was my love of fitness and the sheer physicality of life in the US Marine Corps that sent me down the military path. After becoming a Marine, three yeas later I became an Army Airborne Ranger, then a few years later I earned my Green Beret, and I finally retired after nearly 30 years of military service. Life after the military found me competing in Bodybuilding and Men’s Physique contests. I competed seven times in 2012 alone at both regional and national levels. I learned a lot, but still came up short of a Men’s Physique IFBB Pro Card. I moved to Thailand in 2015 to pursing a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership. My calling to speak, teach, and write grow stronger within me every day. Perhaps this partially explains why my doctoral research focused on spiritual leadership. Spiritual leadership puts the heart into leadership science. It calls for transparency to the depths and ascending above the merely materialistic in work, life, and play.

I was well over the age of 40 before I learned to properly hold both faith and fitness in balance. It was on my 44th birthday that I first started to do what my father had told me to do when I left home at the age of 17. He told me to read a little of the Bible every day, and that has been the spark that has changed everything for me. My whole life has changed for the better since I have been feeding on the Word daily. Everything, including my relationships and my fitness, have all improved thanks to my closer walk with God. I am not unique. God calls all who would draw nearer to Him. Come, let us encourage each other as the time is short.

Thanks for joining me on the journey!

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.— Hebrews 10:24-25 KJV
