Sing Praises with Understanding

5 God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

The Morning Exhortation

Right motives will sometimes bring pain, but wrong motives never bring any lasting profit. A talented person can do many things, but apart from Christ we can do nothing. I may be able to sing, but if there is no glorifying of God in the song it is  nothing. A strong man rejoices to run his race, but if he has no gratitude in his heart for the great God above by whose grace he is made strong, it is less than nothing. “Vanity of vanities” is the repeating theme of “apart from me ye can do nothing” in the book of Ecclesiastes. The righteous will live by faith in God. Fighting the good fight means rejecting all that is not in accordance with the Word of God. We live by faith and depend on Grace. Our strength, His Grace. Our rule, His Word. Our end, His Glory. Forever Faithful is the Lord

The Morning Exhortation

Distance to the destination may be far. Still, joyfulness is a mode of travel and not to be delayed until reaching the destination. Seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, then will the joy of the Lord become your strength every step of the way. Elijah was a man just like us is a remarkable statement in the Scriptures considering how mightily he was used by God. Elijah is a shining testament to wholehearted devotion to God and the effectiveness of prayer. With these two swords there will be boundless joy in good times as well as joy in adversity, joy in suffering, and joy in difficulties. There is always joy in the presence of the Lord. Enter into His courts with praise and thanksgiving. Especially do this when times are tough. So, let us submit our understanding to the truth of God, submit our will to follow His precepts, and submit our affections to be more ready to pursue good rather than to experience sinful pleasures that only hinder His grace working within us. Submit to God and resist the inner temptations to revive the ways of the sinful nature in which we used to walk before we came to know Christ. To be who we are, is to seek to be now who we will be in heaven. The Morning Exhortation

Finding motivation to workout is only a struggle before you learn to like it. Once that switch is flipped however, nobody has to struggle to do anything they love. Find a form of exercise that you like. Start easy and stick with it until you come to love it. Don’t expect that to happen overnight. Here is the secret of great endurance: If you hold on when it has gotten as hard as it can possibly get, from that point on it can only get easier. Thy Throne, O God, Endures Forever

1 My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

The Morning Exhortation

Mysteries are to be expected when contemplating the infinite God. As magnificent as our abilities to think and reason are, even the brightest of us are still limited. For this reason, God has given us His word and only requires faith (Hebrews 11:1-6). It is impossible for us to fully understand all the mysteries of God, but faith is so easy that even a child can come to know the truth by it (Matthew 18:1-4). All the necessary knowledge about God has been provided for us in the Holy Bible. It is far more important to worship God as He is revealed in the Holy Bible than it is to know all the mysteries beyond our understanding. Knowing God as He has revealed Himself is a grace that is even more essential to the spirit than sleep is to the body. Sleep is an essential component for health and fitness that can’t be stored, caught up on, or ignored. You either accept the need for 7-8 hours of sleep out of every 24, or you will eventually have to pay and suffer for lack of it. Fear not. God has promised to give His beloved sleep (Psalm 127:2). Give thanks for it when it is sweet, and pray for it when it is not. The One who has chosen you to be in Christ Jesus has predestined you to bring forth His fruit. Submit yourself therefore to God, and willingly choose to do His will. When our will is to obey, God provides the way.

Rejoice and Be Glad

The Morning Exhortation

Doing what we already know to be right is more important than gaining more and more unused knowledge. First seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Everything else that is needful will be added after that. Walk by faith not by sight. Don’t give up though the pace seems slow, and never complain. Complaining doesn’t make what is bad any better, it only makes what little good there is in any situation seem even less so. It is far better to find one thing to be thankful for than it is to heap up great stinky piles of gripes and complaints. The Bible shows us the way to be content under any and all circumstances. We are to praise and thank the Lord for His loving kindness when things are going well. When things aren’t going well, we are to praise and thank the Lord for His faithfulness knowing that He will work all things together for good. Rest in the love of God, because He has promised never to leave nor forsake us. Trust, Pray, Expect, Praise, Receive, Rejoice and be Thankful. All this we know already. Now faith is consistently believing and practicing the gospel.

Hope in the Steadfast Love of the Lord

The Morning Exhortation

Difficult circumstances and physical discomforts are often accompanied with temptations to fear and doubt. There are thoughts which have the appearance of truth in the natural, yet clearly contradict the Word of God. Such thoughts do not come from faith. Such thoughts arise from the best guess of the brain’s emotional center, which automatically produces feelings based off what it sees and has experienced in the past. These feelings are easily used to by inner tempter to produce a leaven of persuasive thoughts that draw us to self and the things of this earth rather than toward faith and the things of the Lord. Such thoughts are often attempts to put us in fear so that our faith will be weakened and thereby our work hindered or left undone. Reject and dismiss faithless thoughts without entertaining them. Take heed and refuse the enemy’s bait to trap you running endlessly on the treadmill of human reasoning. Indeed, all the dark forces of this present world conspire to have us live in fear, uncertainty, and doubt. The solution is simple and effective. Trust in the living God and the truth will set you free. Rejoice and trust in God Almighty. He has promised to strengthen your hands to do all He has called you to do.

Every Day I Will Praise You

The Morning Exhortation

What we feed and do with the body will eventually be reflected in the mirror. The unseen always precedes what is seen. This is true for both our physical and spiritual natures. Desires are like strong winds that constantly blow to move the hands and feet towards scratching every itch. Like compound interest, good desires work for us and wrong desires work against us. Therefore, feed on the pure spiritual milk of the word and obey the command to store up the word of God in your heart. Be quick to turn the eyes, ears, head, hands, and feet from anything that would feed evil desires. Be it as dear as an eye or hand, pluck it out or cut it off. Seek to walk with the living God and to do His will. Let this be your treasure. Know for certain that every command of God is also a promise. God is not like Pharoah who commanded the children of Israel to make bricks without straw. All that God commands, He has also promised to enable us to do. Therefore, ask for what He has commanded, believe that He will give you the power to do it, and by faith receive it and obey. Great is the God we serve! He is perfect in love and infinite in power.

The Morning Exhortation

Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, so says the holy Scriptures. Everyday life is full of choices. We can do this or that. We can go here or there. Remembering that all that we do is seen by God, our love for God compels us to want to do only what pleases Him. There is also a measure of self-preservation in the fear of the Lord. Just like self-preservation will motivate a person who is allergic to bee stings to avoid being stung at all costs. The fear of bees is strong in all who have had an allergic reaction in the past because they know that if they are ever stung again they could die. Such a person would never say, “it’s just a little bee, no need to avoid it.” So too does the fear of the Lord cause an instant aversion to all sin no matter how big or small. The fear of the Lord functions like a guard rail on the narrow way to keep us in the love of God. A type of automatic sensor that prevents us from descending to the left or to the right. This is wisdom indeed. To all those who are finding the way difficult, bear with it for as long as it takes for the switch to flip. When things get as hard as they can possibly get, realize from that point on they can only get easier. Be strong and courageous. Hold on, trusting in Almighty God. Put all your hope in God alone. Give thanks for His unchangeable goodness toward us. Rejoice and praise the Lord regardless of current circumstances, which are only temporary even though they sometimes linger with no end in sight. O Lord, with the dawn of this New Year, let the words of our mouths and the mediation of our hearts be pleasing to You. And let our prayers be in accordance with Thy will. Let the fear of the Lord always be before our eyes so that we hold firmly to the narrow path of eternal life. Let all that is within us praise Thy Holy Name!

Morning Exhortation

The illusion of youth is that being young will last forever. Looking young and being youthful are not necessarily the same thing. We can try as hard as we like to look young forever, but little by little it will only slip through the fingers with each passing year. It is far better to work to maintain youthful function and to not be unduly concerned with our wrinkles and gray hairs. Physical perfection in the prime of youth may be pleasing to the eye, but it does not make beautiful. Let the beauty of the Lord shine from within, and what was once considered the physical effects of aging can be cheerfully embraced and enhanced. The carnal mind, being spiritually blind, judges only by the outward appearance. We are re-created in Jesus Christ to be holy and without blemish. Such beauty is pleasing to the Lord and of much greater worth than mere outward appearance.

The Lord Will Fulfill

Morning Exhortation

Believe and remember the Scriptures. To watch means to be on guard for the multitude of distractions that would draw us away from God and toward the things of this world. Why do we stay up late at night watching entertainment, playing video games, or scrolling through social media posts? Consider that this is a sinister trap laid by the enemy of our soul to make it harder to get up early every morning. Only kids think staying up late at night makes them grown up. Truth is, hardly anything good happens past 9 p.m. for most of us. You can stay up late and get up early for a while, but if you continually burn the candle of your youth at both ends like that, you will get old before your time. Better to go to bed early, get up early to keep the morning watch, and get in some exercise before first light. Find ways to redeem the time typically wasted by the young. Consistently do this and you will be more fruitful.
