Devotional for May 25

Faith is Now

8 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Psalm 19:8-13 (KJV)

The Morning Exhortation

What does the heart have to do with fitness? Love big muscles more than God, and your muscles will never be big enough. Love physical beauty more than God and you will never be satisfied with how good you look. Blind are those who cannot see that life is more than what meets the eye. The only thing more important than doing the right thing is having the right motive behind the action. There is no reward from God for doing the right thing if the motives are selfish. To live for God our hearts must be changed. This too is accomplished only by the grace of God. For the human heart in Adam is beyond repair. It is not by refurbishing our corrupted hearts that we are saved. Rather, God gives us a new heart in Christ Jesus. The old heart, with it’s desperately sick affections, is crucified with Christ. And the new heart, created in the image of the divine, is alive with Christ. This is only the beginning of the gospel. The Prayer Appointed for This Week

Almighty and merciful God, in your goodness keep me, I pray, from all things that may hurt me, that I, being ready both in mind and body, may accomplish with a free heart those things which belong to your purpose; through Jesus Christ my Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Book of Common Prayer
