Devotional for November 28

Dwell in Safety

4 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.
4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.
6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. Psalm 4 (KJV)

Morning Exhortation

Faith, got to have it. All who believe in Christ Jesus do have faith at least the size of a mustard seed. With it you can move mountains. If you doubt, you shouldn’t expect much in the way of availing prayer. A doubting thought doesn’t equate to doubting by itself. This is important to understand. It is only agreeing with such thoughts that will move you from faith into doubting the Word of God. Train yourself to quickly vanquish doubting thoughts by countering them with the Word of Truth. Rather than agree with a flaming dart from the wicked one, affirm your choice to always believe that the Word of God is true. The fight of faith starts with decerning good and evil thoughts within the inner man. Faith stands in the will alone. What is easily seen requires no faith, and without faith it is impossible to please God. Walk by the light of the gospel and trust God. Remember every command of God is also a promise. Learn to encourage yourself by rehearsing all the goodness of God you can remember. Such as God is good, God is faithful, God is all powerful, God is my rock and my deliver. The mind can only hold on to one train of thought at a time. Let go of doubt and grab hold of faith in God.

The Prayer Appointed for This Week from the Book of Common Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
