Devotional for September 12

Your Love Is Before My Eyes

2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.
3 For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.
4 I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.
5 I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.
6 I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O Lord:
7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.
8 Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth. Psalm 26:2-8 (KJV)

The Morning Exhortation

How precious is the word of God written in the Holy Bible! By it we come to know the only true God and ourselves. The Bible is a book for all time because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Bible is relevant for our modern times because people are the same wherever they have gone since the Garden of Eden. To know God and to know self makes the double abiding of God in us and us in God possible. Here is a written essential piece of knowledge for wisdom: we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). Abba, Father! And when He, the Holy Spirit comes, He will make your Bible a new book to you. Then will we be able to join that great cloud of witness in shouting glory to God Most High through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Question

Is modern man superior to his ancient ancestors?

Answer

Physically, people today tend to be weaker (Scripture). Mentally, we are only more sophisticated and distracted (Scripture). Spiritually, we are just as lost and gone astray as are all who have ever come from the womb…with Jesus Christ being the one exception (Scripture). Both the cause and the cure has, and always will, remain the same until the end of time (Scripture).

The Prayer Appointed for This Week from the Book of Common Prayer

Grant me, O Lord, to trust in you with all my heart; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
