Devotional for September 8

The Lord God Almighty Will Sustain Me

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. Psalm 51:10-19 (KJV)

The Morning Exhortation

God is forever faithful. He will take you where He has created you to be in His perfect timing. Your part is not to worry about when or how. Your part is to trust in God, keep your hand on the plow, shoulder to the wheel, and continue the good fight of the faith. To wait on the Lord means to remain in the ready state of the prepared heart, which is filled with love, faith, and hope in God. Ask God to fully prepare your heart, abide in the Heavenly Vine, and God will bring forth His fruit in you at just the right time.

Question

What is the rest of God?

Answer

In the rest of God, there is fullness of Christ in the spirit  (Scripture), which comes from the full assurance of understanding (Scripture), and results in peace and joy (Scripture). You must first believe that God loves you before you can come to know that you love God (Scripture). You bring you and God will bring the rest (Scripture).

The Prayer Appointed for This Week from the Book of Common Prayer

Grant me, O Lord, to trust in you with all my heart; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
