Devotional for July 15

Lead Me, Lord, In Your Righteousness

4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.
5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.
7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.
8 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
12 For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. Psalm 5:4-12 (KJV)

The Morning Exhortation

Everything depends on our faith. Believe the Word of God. Strengthen the body with exercise. Renew the mind daily with the Word of God. Let faith in God be non-negotiable, and humbly hold on to the truth to the very end. The Word of God is truth and it will never fail. Know beyond merely understanding that there is a placed prepared for you at the table of the wedding feast of the Lamb. This life is but a preparation for the next. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and trust God to lead you to that paradise He has prepared for you.

Question

What is righteousness?

Answer

Righteousness requires both knowledge of the truth and right actions based on that knowledge (reference). Reject the popular agenda of the rebellious who proclaim everyone has the right to determine what is right and wrong for ourselves (reference). Approach the President of the United States in the wrong way and may be killed (reference). It is even more important that we approach the King of kings and Lord of lords correctly (reference). Wisdom is the way of righteousness (reference).

The Prayer Appointed for This Week from the Book of Common Prayer

O Lord, receive the prayers of your servant who calls upon you, and grant that I may know and understand what things I ought to do, and that I also may have the grace and power to faithfully accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
