Devotional for May 13

God Is King of All the Earth

47 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
2 For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
3 He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.
4 He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
5 God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
9 The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted. Psalm 47 (KJV)

The Morning Exhortation

Faith is doing your part while trusting God to do His part. Those who live to do well for themselves often say, “where there’s a will, there’s a way.” While those who live to glorify God know for sure, “when God is in it, there is always a way.” Faith must move first, then God moves in answer to faith. As surely as the day follows the night, faith must wait until Christ, the bright morning star, arises in the heart. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the one and only way. He is the Rock that the builders rejected and is now the chief cornerstone. Not happy with the life you’re reaping? If that be the case, it is time to change the thoughts you’ve been sowing. The unwise perish by refusing to humble themselves and admit that God’s way is far better than their own. Right motives will sometimes bring pain, but wrong motives never bring any lasting profit. The righteous will live by faith, and faith must refuse to doubt the Word of God.

Question

What is our part and what is God’s part?

Answer

Our part is to give God first place (1 Corinthians 9:25; Psalm 49:18; Colossians 2:23; Matthew 6:33; Proverbs 3:5-7; Psalm 1:1-4, 10:4). God’s part is to work all things together for good (Psalm 103:13-17; Romans 8:28; Ephesians 3:20-21).

The Prayer Appointed for This Week from the Book of Common Prayer

Almighty Father who gave your only Son to die for our sins and to rise for our justification: Give me grace so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness, that I may always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through Jesus Christ your Son my Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
